GRASP Speech Pathology is a mobile speech pathology service based in Sydney’s Inner West. We service the Inner West, Inner-City and South West of Sydney.

We provide speech pathology services to children, young people and adults in natural environments including:

  • Home

  • School

  • Online via Telehealth

  • In the community including parks, libraries, community centres, places of employment.

  • Childcare

  • Preschool

We service participants of the NDIS, Medicare and private paying clients.

GRASP Speech Pathology additionally offers professional supervision and support to new graduate and early career Speech Pathologists face-to-face or online.

Meet the team:

As a mobile speech pathologist, Irini Kouvalakis has dedicated her career to delivering high-quality services directly to clients in the comfort of their own environments. Her expertise and commitment to excellence have been honed through over 7 years of hands-on work experience in the disability sector. Irini is equipped with a comprehensive skill set, enabling her to support individuals work on their communication goals.

Irini has also tutored speech pathology students at the Australian Catholic University, University of Technology and Western Sydney University and is committed to lifelong learning.

Irini enjoys and prides herself on her ability to provide professional career support and supervision to new graduate and early career speech pathologists.

Irini is fluent in the Greek language and provides services to the Greek Community of Sydney.

Irini has a particular interest in supporting communication in real-life contexts—social interaction, independence, and functional communication. She enjoys supporting older students transitioning into adulthood with communication skills for independence, work, and daily life.

Outside of work, Irini enjoyed arts/crafts, cooking, nature and spending time with her greyhound, Bambi.

  • Speech encompasses the sounds we create through the coordinated movements of our lips, teeth, tongue, and cheeks.

    We offer a comprehensive approach to assessing, diagnosing, and treating the underlying causes of speech sound errors.

    We tailor our techniques to each child, incorporating evidence-based strategies that are best suited to their unique needs.

    Our goal is to provide individualised care that promotes clear and confident communication.

  • Receptive language refers to our ability to actively listen, process, and comprehend information. It involves understanding spoken words, following instructions, and grasping the meaning of conversations or written text.

    Expressive language refers to our ability to effectively communicate our thoughts, ideas, and emotions through verbal means. It involves using words and constructing sentences to express ourselves, engage in social interactions, share stories, and even convey humor.

    We offer a comprehensive approach to assessing, goal setting and supporting functional and meaningful language gains.

  • Multimodal communication refers to the utilisation of different modalities to express thoughts, ideas, wants, and needs. This can include pictures, words, gestures, body language, assistive devices, and sign language.

    At our practice, we support individuals to develop and strengthen strategies, and tools that can support difficulties communicating using natural speech.

  • Supervision refers to a supportive and ongoing relationship with another speech pathologist that can help to manage and work through the complexities of working as a speech pathologist clinically, socially, financially and emotionally.

  • Social support refers to emotional, informational and practical support to help individuals socially.

    Life skills refers to support to manage everyday tasks, communicate, and interact within environments comfortably and confidently. This type of supports focuses on fostering independence, self-advocacy, and overall well-being.

    Both social support and life skills have a big emphasis on community access and participation.
